Maot Chittim and the Hinda Institute
Joellyn states that “Working with the Hinda Institute has been one of the most deeply meaningful parts of my work. It is not simply about delivering food to prisons - it is about delivering dignity, compassion, and a reminder that no one is forgotten.
Through this partnership, we are able to reach beyond prison walls and touch the hearts of families who often feel invisible. In moments when isolation can feel overwhelming, we have worked with the Hinda Institute to provide special Purim and Chanukah gifts so that children and parents alike know they are still seen, still valued, still part of something larger than their circumstances.
These small, but powerful gestures carry a profound message: you are not alone. Your community cares about you. And even in the hardest seasons, you belong.Fresh Start in the Jewish Community
Kindness and Compassion from the Jewish Community and knowing that someone cares is critical to reintegration, acceptance and belonging. Food from Maot Chitim is a fight against food insecurity and poverty in our community - more than 60 % of our families and 80% of our clients are beneath the poverty line.
The generous contributions from Maot Chitim help every Jew celebrate the holidays with joy. Most importantly, holidays are about the possibilities for a fresh start this year, connection, family and love.Thank you Maot Chitim. - Rabbi Binyomin and Abby Scheiman
Note from a Hinda Family to Maot Chitim
“I just wanted to thank you again for all of your help, and please extend my gratitude to everyone on your team. You truly are terrific — and what stands out most is your sincerity. It really comes through in everything you do.
When you answered the phone this morning, I was honestly surprised. I imagined you must be running around with so much to manage, and I didn’t want to bother you. But you took the time to answer and kindly gave me an approximate delivery time so no one would miss the package. Sure enough, it arrived right around 10:15. It was wonderful.
I can’t tell you how much I appreciate not only the package itself, but the care and thoughtfulness behind how everything is handled. It means more than I can properly express.
Thank you again. Wishing you a happy and healthy Pesach, and a wonderful New Year. Be well, stay safe, and I look forward to staying in touch.”
